ARTISTIC STATEMENT
HUMBERTO SALDARRIAGA
My style has two main influences within the technique: Free Figuration with direct reference to the composition and theme of my work and, on the other hand, the automatism impression of color as a state of sensitive and impulsive creation. I call this particular way of making Free Style Art, since it also involves doses of other styles such as Urban Art, Fauvism, Art Brut, Primitivism, Naif, Graphic Art and Playful Abstract.
Regarding the process, I previously set a topic and found out all the demographic, academic, statistical and experiential data, then I concentrate to receive inspiration, and I give way to the compulsive task in which I use all the pure colors that I have on hand; generating vivid, flat and strong contrast combinations. Also, I carry out the process in reverse, where after creating the work, I review my feelings and sensations until discovering the subject by placing suggestive titles, in order to bring my message closer to the observer.
It motivates me to discover that every reality, however small it may seem, contains within itself a universe of details that are part of a universal cog. This catharsis ends in a reflective painting on a social theme, highlighting the customs, the context of the places and the protagonists with a certain dose of caricature humor or with certain magical-spiritual symbolisms.
